Study the Effect of Body Mass Index [ Bmi ] On Peak Expiratory Flow Rate [ Pefr ] In 20 - 30 Years Age Group

چکیده
Background: Obesity is an increased body weight caused by excessive accumulation of fat cells measured as body mass index [BMI].. Peak expiratory flow rate refers to the maximum flow rate achieved during a single forced expiration. Objective: To study the effect of body mass index on peak expiratory flow rate in 20 -30 years age group. Materials and Methods : The place of a study was done in tertiary health care centre for the period of 6 months (July 2012 to January 2013). Study was performed on 60 females age group 20 -30 years, categorised as normal weight BMI =18.5 -24.99 kg/m 2 and over weight BMI =25-29.99 kg/m 2 . There were 30 normal weight BMI and 30 over weight BMI. The normal PEFR value for healthy young women [aged 20-30 years ] is 280 -400 L/min. Using Wright’s peak flow meter PEFR was evaluated. BMI=weight in kg / height in m 2 . ”t test” was used for statistical analysis. Result: The correlation co-efficient in over weight to found to be -0.96733.So there is some negative relation between BMI specially abdominal obesity causes decrease in PEFR. Conclusion: BMI specially abdominal obesity affects PEFR

Correlation of Obesity Indices with Peak Expiratory Flow Rate in Males and Females
As body mass index (BMI) and waist hip ratio (WHR) are indices of obesity and as obesity is known to reduce flow rates, an attempt had been made to correlate these indices with peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) and see whether there is any gender difference in this. 40 males and 40 females in the age group of 18 to 22 years participated in this study in which 20 were obese and another 20 were no...
متن کاملAdiposity: determinant of peak expiratory flow rate in young Indian adults male.
BACKGROUND Although several factors such as respiratory muscle strength, lung compliance, resistance to airflow, and even obesity affect the lung functions, the nature of relationship with markers of adiposity is not clear. We hypothesised that central pattern of fat distribution is a significant predictor of decreased peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR). The present study was designed with the ai...
متن کاملRespiratory Functions in Textile Mill Workers: Role of Peak Expiratory Flow Rate
Background: Textile industries play a significant role in the economic growth of the country. Health concern of these textile mill workers is the biggest challenge. Respiratory alterations were found in these workers with long-term exposure to cotton dust. Effect of cotton dust on peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) is not very well documented in the past. Aim/Objective: The main objective of this...
متن کاملEffects of age and body mass index on peak-expiratory flow rate in Indian population.
Peak expiratory flow rate (PEFR) is a measure of ventilatory capacity measured by peak flow meter. It is regarded as a basic physiological parameter for the diagnosis, follow up and treatment of patients with respiratory illnesses such as asthma, chronic bronchitis, and emphysema. This study establishes the relationship of PEFR with age and BMI in healthy adult males (N=300) of Kumaon region of...

Background: Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR) is recommended as a tool for control of asthma. The purpose of this study was to determine the normal value of PEFR in the healthy high school children in Babol, Iran. Methods: This study was conducted on 470 healthy high school children (285 girls, 185 boys with the age between 14-18 years). For the determination of PEFR we used Mini Wright Peak Flo...
